Kalabancoro is a neighbourhood in the 7th arrondissement of the District of Bamako. Until 2023 it was a locality of the rural commune of Kalabancoro, in the Kati cercle; the law of 13 March 2023 brought it into the District.

According to the Directory of Localities of Mali (2023 edition) by the national statistics institute (INSTAT), Kalabancoro has 267,283 residents: 130,486 men and 136,798 women, or 95 men per 100 women. That is 57.0% of the 468,915 residents of the 7th arrondissement, where Kalabancoro ranks 1st of 7 localities by population.
Rapid growth
The 2009 general census gave it 96,173 residents, according to Wikipedia. By 2023 the population had been multiplied by 2.8 in fourteen years, a sign of the city spreading beyond its former boundaries.

Good to know
Before 2023, the rural commune of Kalabancoro had 12 localities, from the right bank of the Niger to the south of the District. Its municipal council was dissolved by the Council of Ministers on 6 November 2024 and the commune placed under a special delegation. The Kalabancoro education academy covers five teaching centres (Kalabancoro, Baguinéda, Oulessébougou, Sirakoro-Méguétana and Ouenzindougou); the locality has a public secondary school.
