INPS in Mali: social security card, retirement pension and work accidents
National Social Security Institute (INPS)
In Mali, social security for private-sector employees is run by the National Social Security Institute (INPS). The employer registers the employee; the social security card then opens rights to benefits, a pension and compensation for work accidents. This page follows the three INPS sheets on the official procedures portal.
Key points (checked on 17 October 2026)
- Registration: application filled in and stamped by the employer, who must itself be registered with INPS; filed at your commune's INPS centre; free card, collected no later than 21 days after.
- Normal pension: at 58 with at least 13 years of contributions; early retirement from 53 with 15 years (5% reduction per year of anticipation).
- Work accident: declared by the employer to the labour inspectorate and INPS; failing that, by the victim; processed in 45 days.
The social security card
The registration application is filled in by the employer, which must itself be registered with INPS: the employee is attached to the employer's INPS number. The file is lodged at your commune's INPS centre, which issues a receipt and an appointment, written on the back, no later than 21 days after filing. To collect the card, bring the original receipt and come in person for the photo.

The retirement pension
According to the sheet, three situations give entitlement to a pension:
| Type | Age | Contribution period | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal pension | 58 | at least 13 years | — |
| Early pension | from 53 | at least 15 years | 5% reduction per year of anticipation |
| Solidarity pension | 53 | at least 6 years but under 13 | means-tested |
Calculation. The pension applies a rate of 2% per year of contributions to the average monthly salary of the last eight years, capped at 80% of that salary. The sheet gives a minimum of 44,397 FCFA a month and a solidarity pension of 14,799 FCFA, indexed to the minimum wage; these amounts date from when the sheet was written and may have been raised.
The file. The employer fills in and signs the employment and salary certificate and the pension application. You then lodge at the INPS centre: birth certificate extract, employment and salary certificates for the last eight years, work certificates for the different jobs held, the endorsed pension application; if married, the marriage certificate and your spouse's birth certificate; for children, their birth certificates plus a medical certificate (under 6), a community-life or school attendance certificate (6 to 14) or a school enrolment certificate (over 14). INPS then assigns a pension number.
Payment. Below 50,000 FCFA, the pension is paid in cash at the paying offices, following a group calendar based on the last digit of your date of birth; above that, by cheque. You need your ID and your social security card.
Work accidents
The employer declares the accident or occupational disease to the labour inspectorate and to INPS; failing that, the victim can do it. Depending on severity, INPS can ask the labour inspectorate to investigate.
Documents: medical certificate of the injuries, police report for a road accident, the company accident book provided by INPS, the declaration in three copies, an extension certificate where relevant, a medical certificate of recovery or consolidation, a copy of the victim's ID card and the payslip for the month before the accident. The procedure is free; allow 45 days.
